Ask Better Quality Questions
“What would you have me say?
What would you have me do?
Where would you have me go?
And with whom?” ~ Marianne Williamson
I have spent most of my life pushing, driving, and using sheer force of will to make shit happen.
This works well for a couple of decades. But it’s fairly exhausting. And can ultimately lead to burn out, especially with the added incessant barrage of technical intrusions and interruptions we are assaulted with every day.
And you wonder why we wake up in our 40s asking the “Is this all there is?” question.
The promises of our cultural conditioning, “Work hard, get good grades, go to a good school, get a ‘good’ job (good according to who?), make a lot of money, buy a house, get married, have kids, buy a bigger house,” etc etc. often end up falling short on delivering the feelings of happiness and fulfillment we are banking on them giving us.
I have been reading Marianne Williamson’s books and the “A Course in Miracles” text for 15 years, and admittedly, I’m s slow take. While the concept of “surrender” has always made sense on some level, has been fairly challenging to integrate into my life until recently.
I’m finally coming back organically (pure desperation?) to the above questions because I know that God / The Universe / Source’s will for me is even better than anything I can imagine for myself, so why not just turn my life over to the care and will of whatever I want to call ‘It’ and give myself a break?
Relax? Breathe? Take the path of least resistance? Ease? At this point, I’M GAME!
I’m finally giving up forcing my needs, desires, and dreams to come to fruition on my own timetable. I’m stepping out of the way and asking these much higher quality and compelling questions. And guess what?! Miraculously (?) people, places, and things keep being placed right in my path that continue to help me manifest what’s in my heart and mind.
How freeing it is to actually EXPERIENCE this firsthand!
If you are feeling stuck, trapped, or finding yourself trying to figure out the “cursed how’s”, as Mike Dooley calls them, insistent in needing to know how certain things will unfold and lacking faith that they will, go inward.
Create some solitude, become quiet and still, ask these questions, and trust fully that they will be answered in ways that will bring you great joy. Isn’t it a relief that you don’t have to “figure it out”. You just have to tune in to what makes you happy, do more of it, and open your heart to receiving the abundance of good that’s in store for you!
